The goal of this blog is to provide entertaining and unorthodox scholarly perspectives on contemporary China. Committee members are China scholars from around the world and are primarily Doctoral Candidates, Postdocs, and Assistant Professors in the social sciences.

The name of the blog is a reference to the Central Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, a group of seven to nine Communist Party officials that are the de facto highest power in China. As our bloggers are primarily more junior China scholars, the name is a tongue-in-cheek evocation in the spirit of the frequently sarcastic commentary of Chinese Netizens.

The Standing Committee seeks to move past overly simplistic popular coverage of China and relay content that can challenge dominant narratives, educate, and provoke thought. We blog in service of the people.
